Week 10 Reflection

This week has been pretty good, we did a dance in assembly and I went to Canterbury’s but not much else.

Canterbury’s was really boring, we kinda just sat in a hot misty room kinda like a steam room for 4 hours to swim 4 lengths. I did see a lot of people I knew though and my friend said ‘ you really do know everyone don’t you’ but yeah Canterbury’s was okay. Not enjoyable but not terrible.

The highlight of my week would have to be doing the flash moob. We did this in assembly today, a flash moob is where 1 or 2 people start doing a dance to a song and by the end of the song everyone is dancing. We did the flash moob to the song fireball. I found the flash moob really fun and enjoyable but I did find that it was a little crowded and I was often stuck up against the wall and couldn’t really do the moves.

But over all I’ve had a pretty good week .

Y8 Girls self Defence

For the last few weeks the year 8 girls have been doing a self defence work shop with Linda. I feel like I have learnt a lot from this course because, I have learned how to defend myself better and know that a situation is wrong or dangerous.  Some of the grabs, kicks and other things that we learnt include ways to get your hand away from someone if they grab you, when it’s a good time to defend yourself with violence and how to get someone of from on top of you. I really enjoyed the course because Linda made it fun and enjoyable for everyone with games and role plays. A game that we played a lot was called, self defence tag. The way you play this is really simple, there are 3-4 taggers and they run around trying to tag you, is you get tagged you have to stand with your arms out to the side and wait for someone to free you. You can save someone by coming up to them  and kicking the air next to them. You can stop yourself from getting tagged by yelling back off as loud as you can when the tagger runs up to you.

This course has been amazing and has helped me feel more comfortable walking down the street alone. I think that this course should be available for girls all around the world because of how much safer and stronger you feel after learning this stuff.

School values

Today we worked learnt about school rise values and different ways to show them. As a small task at the end of the lesson we researched different schools rise values. We had to look up 10 school and add there rise values to a spread sheet. I found that the 2 most common rise values were show respect and kindness.

Week 6 Reflection

This week has been really good actually. I did a lot of things like helping with the juniors with their triathlon, office duty, road patrol and swimming sports.

My favourite thing that happened this week  would be swimming sports by far. I was really really really nervous before but when my race came I got up and did it anyway. I won all of my races but that doesn’t really matter to me I’m just proud that I got in the pool and tried my best.

One challenge I faced this week was helping with the junior triathlon. Even though I really enjoyed helping out and I really did I found it really challenging because some of the juniors were being really stubborn or not moving  and going the wrong way. But in the end they all crossed the finish line.

Week 5 Reflection

This week has been really good. I’ve done a lot of things like kapa haka, helping the juniors and swimming.

The highlight of my week would definitely be helping the juniors with their maths tests. I wasn’t allowed to help them with the questions but I was allowed to help them read the questions to them and help them understand what they needed to do.

One thing I found challenging this week was swimming. Not the fact that it’s to hard or anything just that everyone is a different speed and are better at some strokes then others, so it’s hard to figure out an or der to go in. But I’m really enjoying swimming in the school pool and I feel like I’m getting faster and faster the more I do it.

Read Aloud Reflection

For the last 2 weeks each teacher has been reading a group of kids a different chapter book. I’m in Sharon’s group and she has been reading us a book called, Wild Pork and Watercress.

We are a few chapters in and I’m enjoying it so far. They have just run away to hide in the forest so that child welfare can’t take Rickie back to a home. The book is about a kid called Rickie baker who gets into a lot of trouble, after a lot of running away he finally settles in at his aunt Bella’s and uncle heck’s farm. The book is really funny and interesting and I’m really excited to find out what happens next.

Term 1 Week 3 Reflection

This week has been great, I have had a lot of fun doing things around the class room like literacy and maths as well as doing extra things like office duty, road patrol and kapa haka.

The highlights of my week would definitely be tech and office duty. I am helping to train 2 groups of kids that have never done office duty before. It has been great especially because on of those kids is Tui! None of the kids I help really need my help but it is fun to just be there to help out. Tech has been the best thing this week because of all the new classes I get to take.

One challenge I faced this week was tech, even though I enjoyed it (And I really did) I found it really hard to code a video game in digi tech.

Over all I have really enjoyed my week and can’t wait for the next!

Welcome future year 7’s

For the last 2 days Tangaroa have been working on Christmas activities as well as some tasks for next year. There are 2 literacy tasks categories optional and compulsory. We have to do 3 compulsory and 2 optional by the end of the week as well as 5 Mahi-A-Tahi points. As 1 of my compulsory task’s I made a presentation with Malaya and Tui to help try prepare the future year 7’s for life in Tangaroa.  This is what it says:

Good Afternoon future year 7’s. If you are going to Chisnallwood please don’t watch the rest of  this presentation . Be prepared  to have harder maths and weird teachers. Also be prepared for the sadness of missing your friends if they go to Chisnallwood or any other schools. Be prepared for making Mr Redmond coffee every morning. Tangaroa Isn’t all bad though there are some good things about it like the choice of PE and you always get the help and support you need. Also all the teachers are really nice and talei can read your mind like the time i was going to be annoying and then she told me not to.  Plus there are lots of great opportunities here and if you go to Chisnallwood you will miss out on seeing us every day.

Term 1 Week 1 Reflection

This was my first week back in Tangaroa as a year 8 and I really enjoyed it. I was feeling a bit nervous about coming back to school because I would be a year 8 and I would be becoming a role model for the rest of the school. But nothing has really changed this year and I’m really excited to see what the rest of the year brings.

Some positives about this week have been seeing my friends again and I think I’m more focused in my classes and I feel like I will find it a lot easier to pay attention. My favourite thing about this week has been doing office duty and road patrol again because I really enjoy doing them and I think it’s a great way to spend time with my friends as well as feeling more responsible.

One thing I’ve found hard this week is that Anika and Caily are no longer at school because they were really great company and I think I’m really going to miss having them around.

More than anything I’m excited to see what the rest of the year brings.

Action stations.

This Friday the year 4-8 students did action stations. I chose to do quiz night and I really enjoyed it. We got into groups and had to answer a series of questions based on different topics. One thing I really enjoyed was the flags topic because I really liked what you need to do to find the answers. One thing I found hard was the word topic because it was really challenging to find a word with only two words to help. Over all it was really fun and enjoyable but one thing I think I need to do next time is think of a shorter name because The Quacking pickled salmon with cheese is really hard to write quickly.
